Government is seriously tackling dengue fever

BANGKOK, Nov 16 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered authorities in all provinces to protect people from dengue haemorrhagic fever. Government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the prime minister ordered governors and health chiefs of all provinces to take quick actions to tackle dengue fever. Although news reports on dengue fever are seriously concerning general people, Maj Gen Sansern quoted the Public Health Ministry as reporting that the situation of the disease was actually smaller than the worst circumstance in 2013 when there had been 150,000 patients including 150 dead cases. Besides, the epidemic was subsiding as the country was entering the winter, the spokesman said. However, he advised people to protect themselves from mosquitoes which carry the disease. Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn said officials of the ministries of health and interior were getting rid of the larvae of striped mosquitoes that were the carriers of dengue fever and general people should not panic. Officials were implementing measures to control the disease at various places including schools and factories, he said. (TNA)
