Governor Inaugurates Museum Of Education In Bandung

Bandung, W Java, May 2 (Antara) - Governor of West Java Province Ahmad Heryawan, known as Aher, inaugurated the Museum of Education at the Indonesian Education University (UPI) in Bandung on Saturday during the commemoration of National Education Day. "UPI has created a Museum of Education. This might be the first museum of education to be built by an education university in Indonesia," Governor Ahmad Heryawan said. The governor noted that education has become one of the essential components in the nation's development, as there can be no prosperous civilization without education. "The development in education is important, as other types of development cannot succeed without it," Aher said. Excelling at education, however, will not be possible without qualified teachers and lecturers, he added. The museum displays some 200 collections, including old pencils, books and report cards from the 20th century. Head of Development of the Museum of Education UPI Bandung, Erlina Wiyanarti, noted that some collections were gathered from antiques shops and used book stores. "Of course we have references, the Law of Cultural Heritage. We have a collection assessment team consisting of East Java's Tourism and Culture Office, Sri Baduga Museum and the archeological institution," Wiyanarti said. The Museum of Education has on exhibit the stages of the nation's history of education. Besides a multimedia room and an information room, there is a room on the first floor of the museum showing the history of prehistoric and education in the classic era. There are also dioramas depicting the history of education and the socio-culture development during the era. On the second floor, visitors can learn the history of education during the national movement, as well as about education from the pre-independence through the reformation era. The third and fourth floors display the history of teachers and the UPI. Visitors may also learn about the development of education methods. "The paradigm of a museum is not only about the past, but also the future," Governor Ahmad Heryawan said. The Museum of Education of UPI will be open to the public in October 2015, as the Museum's board is still preparing the ticketing system and gathering additional collections for display.
