Govt satisfied with rescuing human trafficking victims

BANGKOK, Feb 21 (TNA) - The government is satisfied with suppression of human trafficking gangs including beggar problem as human trafficking is considered as a national agenda. Prime Minister’s Office spokesman Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said nearly 4,000 beggars including Thais and foreigners -- were rescued between September 2014 – January 2016. During last month alone, about 160 beggars were rescued by government authorities, he said, adding that children aged less than 10 were forced to become beggar as they could earn money as much as 10 times more than older ิbeggars. More than 90 per cent of those who were rescued were victims of human trafficking networks who illegally crossed the Thai border from neighbouring countries. Rescued victims will be sent to rehabilitation centres where they can get vocational training before they are sent back to the society while the Immigration Police will send the foreigners to their homeland.
