Govt worries over possible clashes among protesters

BANGKOK, June 15 (TNA) – Thailand’s Pheu Thai Party, which is the core of the coalition government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, as well as the government are unhappy of an ongoing gathering between the pro and anti-government groups, said Anusorn Iamsa-ard, deputy spokesman of the party. Their gatherings could lead to violence, said Anusorn, adding that members of every party should respect the law. His comments were made following a clash between anti-government protesters in white Guy Fawkes masks with pro-government ‘Red Shirt’ during a rally in the northern province of Chiang Mai on Friday. Both the anti and pro-government groups are scheduled to hold fresh rallies across Thailand on Sunday. Members of another anti-government Thai Spring group also plan to hold a gathering on June 23, said Anusorn. He urged every group, no matter whether pro or anti-government, to respect the law and avoid intimidation against each other. The government and police will take drastic action against those violating other people’s rights, Anusorn added. (TNA)
