GPIC delegation returns after IFA Istanbul meeting

Manama, June 2 (BNA): Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery has returned to Bahrain after taking part in and co-chairing the 83rd International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) annual conference in Istanbul, Turkey. More than 1,400 delegates from 77 countries took part in the event, where key deliberations focussed on the future of chemical fertilizer and its role in food production and energy efficiency. Increasing contribution of companies in energy saving, where the crop is used in the production of oils, which in turn are used alternative energy for oil and gas energy, were also discussed. Dr. Jawahery also took part in IFA’s Executive Board meeting on sidelines of the conference, as well as IFA’s Management Meeting during which followed up on its activities to enhance its role in the global fertilizer industry. The conference also discussed the industry’s role in achieving global food security and its contribution to the protection of the environment. Other events discussed the current trends and future of the fertilizer industry in the light of the current challenges. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jawahery said GPIC is keen to be present at such an important global conferences attended by professionals personalities in addition to the heads of industrial companies from various countries. He said the conference seeks to achieve IFA’s goals. He said GPIC, as one of the most important fertilizer manufacturers in the region, is working to enhance this vital industry, which is of strategic importance and directly affects the issue of global food supply and demand. He said it is vital to strengthen cooperation between IFA members to realise its goals. Dr. Jawahery also spoke about the growing importance of fertilisers, and said their global use continued to increase. Reports, he said, indicated that the use of the world's nitrogen fertilizer is about 61 per cent, compared to phosphate, which amounts to 23 per cent and potassium 16 per cent. This, he said, is a big challenge for the fertilizer industry. The GPIC delegation, meanwhile, met with representatives of various companies, during which future plans for manufacturing technology and increasing production were discussed after taking into account the rationalization in energy and the promotion of health, safety and environmental conservation. GPIC is now an international company of repute in the field of the fertilizer industry and enjoys close links with the IFA, which also recently unanimously elected Dr. Jawahery as its President. Dr. Jawahery was earlier elected its vice-president for sustainability and development. IFA is one of the world’s largest unions and has as its member’s fertiliser manufacturers, including members from the Gulf Arab states, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Jordan and Morocco. IFA is headquartered in the French capital Paris and regularly hosts meetings and seminars globally as well as organizes field trips to various destinations to help with transfer of manufacturing technology.
