Grand event for late Thai King to be organised in northeastern hub

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, THAILAND, October 25 (TNA) - A grand event, including merit making and charity activities, as well as a mass candle-lighting ceremony, will be held in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand's northeastern hub, on October 27 to pay tribute and honour late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Nakhon Ratchasima Governor Vichien Chantaranothai told journalists on October 24 that all sectors in his province will participate in the upcoming grand event to show their respect to the late and beloved Thai monarch. The governor said activities in the grand event on Thursday include a mass alms offering to Buddhist monks in the early morning at the Thao Suranaree Monument in the provincial heart, followed by a free food offering to the public at 89 booths on a road near the provincial monument and a free cafeteria offered in front of the Provincial Hall. In the evening, the governor revealed, a public ceremony to light up 32,789 candles, in which participants will also join a mass singing of the Royal Anthem and other songs to pay respect to the late and beloved Thai King and to be recorded as part of the national video archive, will also be held at the Provincial Hall. According to the governor, the mass singing will be led by a famous male Thai singer, Tik Shiro. Besides, an official merit making, hosted by the 2nd Army Area Command, will be held at the Provincial Hall as a 15-day tribute paid to late His Majesty the King, who passed away at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital on October 13 at the age of 89.
