Great Efforts Directed to Securing Water for Springtime Farming

Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- Officials and working people in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are working hard to secure water necessary for farming in spring. According to the statistical data, more than 31 700 groundwater facilities have been built and repaired, over 20 000 kilometers of water routes expanded and 109 kilometers of river-bed dredged in medium and small rivers as part of the campaign that began early this year to find out all the water sources and make an efficient use of them. In South Hwanghae Province, more than 13 400 groundwater facilities have been built and repaired and in Kangwon Province, water routes of nearly 2 000 kilometers were readjusted and hundreds of wells built. The province also saw the completion of the project for building facilities like pools, tube-wells and underground water storages. In South Hamgyong Province, 123 000 cubic meters of earth have been removed and a dozens of kilometer-long water route newly built and other structure projects are being stepped up. In Nampho City, more than 70 large pumping facilities have been additionally installed, capacity of passage through water has improved one and a half times and capacity of reservoirs increased through waterway cleaning, removal of earth and stone-covering. So the water was fully secured. -0-
