Green energy share in Thailand rises

BANGKOK, May 1 (TNA) - Deputy Director-General of the Alternative Energy Development Department Twarath Sutabutr says the consumption of alternative energy has been on the rise in Thailand following higher LPG prices and the phase out of 91-octane gasoline sales. He said last year, the consumption of renewable energy in Thailand accounted for 9.9% of total energy consumption in the country and helped to cut down on oil imports. Renewable energy had contributed up to 29% or 2,786 megawatts of electricity generation in the Kingdom. During the period from 2012-2014, Thailand was expected to produce nearly 300 megawatts of solar power and 150 megawatts of wind power every year. High on the agenda for Thailand this year will be the hosting of Renewable Energy Asia 2013 fair in Bangkok from June 5 to 8, in which over 30 countries are to attend. (TNA)
