Gulf of Thailand closes for 3 months during spawning season

BANGKOK, Feb 10 (TNA) - The Fishery Department will close parts of the Gulf of Thailand for three months during the fish breeding season, starting February 15, with an aim to increase aquatic animals. With the aim to better manage marine animals in the Gulf, fishermen are refrained from using certain heavy fishing equipment in catching fishes in the Gulf from Feb. 15 to May 15, said Fisheries Department director-general, Adisorn Promthep. The total area covers about 33,900 square kilometres. Official ceremony on the temporary closure of the Gulf will be held next Wednesday (Feb 14) at the office of Fish Marketing Organisation of the southern coastal province of Chumphon. (TNA)
