Half a ton of drugs has been seized in Semnan Province

TEHRAN,June 21(MNA)- 529 kilograms of illegal drugs have been discovered in Semnan Province since the beginning of the current Iranian year, which began on March 21, 2014, the province’s police chief announced on Wednesday. Mohammad Reza Mirzaei said in the confiscation of this amount of drugs a total of 635 people involved in storing, smuggling and distributing drugs were arrested and around 23 drug trafficking groups got busted. The local police official said this shows that drug confiscation in the province has spiked by 22 percent compared to the corresponding time last year (March 2013-March 2014). A few days back, he added, in an operation by the province’s police force another drug trafficker was busted for possession of about 81 kilos of opium in Kahnouj, Kerman Province.
