Hallajvashan to give concert on Rumi in Paris

TEHRAN,May 13(MNA) -- The Iranian ensemble Hallajvashan will be giving a concert on the Persian mystic and poet Molana Jalal ad-Din Rumi (1207-1273) at the House of World Cultures in Paris on May 24. Selections from the band’s unreleased album “The Silence of Rumi” will be performed during the concert, which has been given the same name, the Tehran-based recording studio Barbad Music announced in a press release on Sunday. The studio plans to release the album in Iran concurrent with the concert in Paris. The album has been composed by band leader Mohammad-Ali Merati, and French Rumi expert Jean-Claude Carrière is scheduled to recite some Rumi’s poems during the concert. He is the author of “Love: The Joy That Wounds: The Love Poems of Rumi”. In addition, vocalist Homayun Kazemi will accompany the band. Laurent Bernard, Edmundo Carneiro, Alireza Kishipur, Artymon Minasyan, Dariush Farzad, Deborah Benasouli, Leonor Baker and Adrien Shomali are the other members of the ensemble. Rumi is famous for his lyrics and for his didactic epic Masnavi-ye Manavi (“Spiritual Couplets”), which widely influenced Muslim mystical thought and literature.
