Hamad Award for Translation Looks to Bring World Countries Closer in 2018

Doha, May 19 (QNA) - The Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding confirmed Saturday that it is currently seeking to bring about cultural exchanges and build bridges of intercultural communication with various translation institutions in many countries around the world. Media Advisor of the Award Dr Hanan Fayyad told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the award seeks to strengthen relations with brotherly and friendly countries and to promote important values and stress on the importance of communicating with the world through translation as an important bridge for this communication. She noted that the award began tours last week that started with Kuwait last week to introduce the award and not only to build cultural companies and build bridges of communication through translation through the organization of cultural seminars dealing with different translation issues. She noted that the award will have Arab tours in Oman, Morocco and Tunisia. It will also have tours in Germany and Russia, where the cultural year between Qatar and Russia will be celebrated. The award's board announced in March of this year details of the latest edition. For the 2018 edition, German was selected as the second language, thus reflecting the centrality of cultural relations between the Arab countries and Germany as well as the leading role played by the translation between the two languages to develop these ties. In a continuous effort to enhance exchange and communication between the Arab culture and the world's cultures, the award has drawn attention in the 2018 edition on five new languages: Italian, Russian, Japanese, Bosnian and Swahili.
