Hamas Wants Malaysia To Raise Issues On Palestine At The UN

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- Hamas wants Malaysia to continue its role by bringing up issues on Palestine to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Umno vice-president Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (second from right) said the request was conveyed to him by Hamas head of political affairs Mohammad Naser (third from left) during their one-hour meeting at the Putra World Trade Center (PWTC) here. Ahmad Zahid, who is Home Minister, said the good relations enjoyed by Malaysia with Hamas and Fatah had enabled Malaysians to understand and sympathise with the two political parties in Gaza. "Although we have relation, we do not sideline Fatah, and in this matter, what they requested during the meeting is because Malaysia has secured a non-permanent seat in the UNSC. "The request was from a party to a party, that is from Hamas to Umno, and thus, I'll bring up the matter to the Umno Supreme Council. "Furthermore, it has been Malaysia's stand all the while to support the Palestinian cause," he told reporters here. Apart from that, Ahmad Zahid said Hamas also hoped that Malaysia would continue to provide aid for the Palestinians through the Putra Umno Club. He said Hamas also raised the subject on opportunities for Palestinian children to pursue studies in Malaysia. "All this while we have been assisting the Palestinians to continue their studies here and if there is enough fund, we hope to bring more of them here," he added.(photoBernama) -- BERNAMA
