Haze hits Thai North again

BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) - People living in Thailand’s northernmost province of Chiang Rai are suffering from severe haze due to slash and burn activities in neighbouring countries. Officials said dust particles in Mae Sai district bordering the country Myanmar were measured at 336.5 microgrammes per cubic metre, exceeding standards which set at 120 microgrammes per cubic metre. Meanwhile, dust particles were measured at 201.7 microgrammes per cubic metre in the provincial seat. Outdoor visibility was reportedly poor at less than one kilometre. Mae Sai officials had to spray water into the air in an attempt to lessen dust particles. Chiang Rai governor Thanin Supasaen said officials stationing along the Thai-Myanmar border, especially at Chiang Saen, Chiang Khong and Thoeng districts are also spraying water on streets to prevent haze from entering the areas.
