Haze pollution in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI, March 27 (TNA) - Officials said haze and smoke pollution in the northern capital of Chiang Mai still exceed the safety standard level early Sunday. Chiang Mai residents are urged to spray water in the air or to water trees around their houses in order to reduce the pollution while concerned officials are optimistic that the situation would improve soon. Visibility remains poor while people are suffering from irritating eyes and nose as the sky over the province is still covered with smoke from forest fire. Officials said illegal burning of forest trees continues in several districts of Chiang Mai. Dust particles at Chiangmai government center in the provincial seat were measured at 135 microgrammes/cubic metre (MCM), exceeding the standard at 120 MCM. However, the dust particles on Saturday in Chiang Mai rose to the highest record since the beginning of 2016 as they were measured at 200 MCM. (TNA)
