HE Deputy Prime Minister to Participate in Alliance of Civilization Forum

Doha, August 28 (QNA) - HE Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud left Doha on Thursday to go to Indonesia, in order to participate in the Sixth Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations hosted in Bali. His Excellency will chair Qatar's delegation in the forum which will start tomorrow and last for two days. The forum is held this year under the theme of "Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Diversity for Common and Shared Values." A number of political leaders as well as regional and international institutions will participate in this year's event. The UN Alliance of Civiliazation's main goal is to form a platform for intercultural dialogue, understanding and cooperation. The forum this year will highlight strategic and yet practical measures that generate and sustain common values and a shared sense of responsibility among all stakeholders, partners and constituencies towards working against extremism and encouraging dialogue between different cultures. The State of Qatar held the fourth forum back in 2011. It is considered one of the most prominent UN events since it was first held in Spain in 2008. The Alliance was created based on an idea by former Spanish Prime Minister Luis Zapatero in 2004 to create a platform that looks to bridge over cultural differences. (QNA)
