HE the Premier Opens First Qatar International Anti-Drug Forum

Doha, May 25 (QNA) - HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani opened Monday the First Qatar International Anti-Drug Forum under the theme "International experiences in the detection of trafficking routes and itineraries and methods of concealment" at Doha Sheraton Hotel. High-level international figures in the anti-drug trafficking field and delegates from over 22 countries and regional and international bodies and organizations are taking part in the two-day forum. The global forum aims at promoting cooperation and coordination among all world countries in order to exchange experiences and information related to the latest methods of concealment and the detection of trafficking routes, and the support of all international efforts in the areas of addressing drug crimes. Addressing the attendees of the First Qatar International Anti-Drug Forum, HE the Director-General of Public Security and Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Drugs and Alcohol Affairs Maj. Gen. Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi said that organizing the forum comes in the course of Qatar's keenness to engage the international community in all the efforts exerted to address the drug problem and reduce the spread of drugs all over the world. He stressed the keenness of the State of Qatar to enhance cooperation and keep up with the latest developments related to drugs and psychotropic substances in all its forms through the ratification and working on the basis of anti-drug conventions, noting that Qatar has always sought to participate in the relevant forums regionally and internationally. In this context, Qatar developed an anti-drug national strategy which absorbed all the dimensions of the drug problem and its multiple dangers in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030 which aims at building a modern state of security, prosperity, well-being and stability by focusing on the economic, social, human and environmental development, HE Al Khulaifi added. HE the Director-General of Public Security noted that the Forum aims at strengthening cooperation and exchanging experiences and information related to the latest methods of concealment and the detection of trafficking routes among all countries in order to achieve the desired results. He underlined that the problem of drugs is a complex problem and have become one of the most important challenges facing the world because of its growing dangers and dimensions which include production, smuggling, illicit trafficking and dealing operations. HE Al Khulaifi pointed out that globalization and the great openness between world countries in all fields, as well as the growing technological development in the means of communication and transportation have had a positive effect on the lifestyle at the moment, however, he cautioned that drug trafficking gangs took advantage of this tremendous development in the implementation of their goals related to the production, promotion and smuggling of narcotic materials through the use of modern means. HE Maj. Gen. Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi called for unified and coordinated national, regional and international efforts in order to address the various developments and challenges. He expressed confidence that the participation of this distinguished elite of experts and specialists in this international forum will enrich its deliberations in an effort to find the best formula to address the drug problem and the developments of smuggling and its methods.
