HE Sheikh Joaan Chairs Qatar 2015 Organizing Committee Meeting

Basel, October 21 (QNA) - The Qatar 2015 Organizing Committee of the 24th Men's Handball World Championship held Tuesday a meeting in Basel with the International Handball Federation. HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani chaired the Qatari committee in the meeting, while President of the International Handball Federation (IHF) Dr. Hassan Moustafa chaired the IHF side. Vice President of the Qatar 2015 Organizing Committee Ahmed Al Shaabi and the committee's Director-General Dr. Thani Al Kuwari. Managing Director of the IHF Amal Khalifa also attended the meeting. They discussed the latest developments in Qatar's preparations for hosting the handball World Cup next year. The IHF highlighted its belief that the country will host an exceptional World Cup, based on the efforts they have seen from the organizing committee. The committee also presented a 3D design of the competition's new cup in the meeting. This is the first change in the trophy in 15 years. They also discussed Qatar's preparation for hosting the 15th Asian Men's Handball Club League Championship, which is considered as a rehearsal for the World Cup. The competition will take place in Al Sadd's court, which fits 7,700 fans. The meeting also touched on progress in establishing the Lusail multipurpose hall, which fits more than 15,000 spectators IHF President Moustafa praised the overwhelming support the competition has been receiving from the committee under the chairmanship of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani. Moustafa expressed his confidence that Qatar will hold a World Cup that will attract the attention of the handball international community. (QNA)
