Heavy rain continues to batter Thai South

BANGKOK, November 9 (TNA) - Heavy downpours continue in several of Thailand’s southern provinces while authorities plan to declare disaster zones in Nakhon Si Thammarat province tomorrow after floodwater inundated the city outskirts Sunday. The chief of Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation office said low-pressure system had now moved from the province and is now heading toward the Andaman Sea. The amount of rainfall in the province should recede within the next one or two days. What is worrisome is the amount of floodwater in Lan Saka district as it has arrived in the surrounding areas of the provincial seat before dawn Sunday. A total of 20 water pumps have been installed in 17 places in Muang district while officials are draining the floodwater into the sea. Meanwhile, more than 500 long-tailed boats in Krabi resort province which provide services to tourists to islands decided to anchor their boats after a warning was issued that a strong low-pressure system covering the lower part of the Gulf of Thailand would arrive in Krabi this afternoon. This would bring heavy downpour and strong winds to the province. Krabi officials have also hoisted red flags at several beaches, warning people not to swim due to high waves. (TNA)
