Heavy rain hits Narathiwat, southern Thailand

NARATHIWAT, Dec 23 (TNA) - More than 50 houses in the southern province of Narathiwat are now under deep floodwater after heavy rain has hit the province for the past one week, officials said. Heavy downpours have lashed 13 districts in the province, causing water of Sungai Kolok River to overflow and inundated houses along the banks. The river banks have become overflowed following water runoff from Sangala Khiri Mountain range. Floodwater in some areas was measured up to 50 centimetres high as flood victims have to move valuable effects to higher ground, officials said. Many people are forced to leave and temporary stay at their relatives’ houses while many of them have to park their cars on roadside. Officials said flooding situation in the province could become worsen as heavy rain continues relentlessly while the water levels in two other rivers are about to overflow the banks soon. (TNA)
