Heavy rain, storm hit Northeastern Thailand

BANGKOK, December 15 (TNA) - Strong winds, plummeting temperatures and storms are battering Thailand’s northern province of Nan, uprooting trees on major roads and blowing off the rooftops of many houses. Disaster officials say the normally remarkable winter season has become unpredictable and sometimes violent, especially in Pua and Tha Wang Pha districts, although no casualties have been reported. The Meteorological Department has warned of strong winds from Myanmar over Thailand’s Northern, upper Central and the Northeastern regions, which will continue to cause rains and storm until Monday. A high weather pressure from China will also cover upper northern Thailand from Monday to Thursday, and may push temperatures down by as much as 10 degrees Celsius. The weather station in the southern province of Songkhla, meanwhile, announced that low pressures from the South China Sea is moving westward and will reach Malaysia by Monday. As a result, more rains are anticipated in deep southern Thailand. (TNA)
