Heavy traffic in Thai South expected during Songkran

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, April 3 (TNA) - Hua Hin municipality braces for heavy traffic on Phetkasem road which links Bangkok and southern provinces during Songkran, Thailand’s New Year festival, and prepares measures to prevent road accidents. Traffic police and concerned officials early Sunday, inspected a bypass route for Hua Hin resorts as they expected that tens of thousands of cars would travel to the South during the annual Songkran festival, this month. Officials have erected roadside signs informing motorists to bypass cities in order to avoid heavy traffic. Parts of Phetkasem Road, which is now under repairs will be opened for motorists to use between April 8 – 18 to help relieve traffic problems during Songkran. Officials will also be manned round-the-clock at railroad crossings, in which barricades have yet to be erected. (TNA)
