Helmet-wearing campaign to reduce children casualty

BANGKOK, May 29 (TNA) - A helmet-wearing campaign for kids is launched on Sunday aimed at reducing the number of child casualties in road accidents resulted from not wearing a motorcycle helmet while travelling to and from school. Ratanawadee H. Winther, chairperson of Asia Injury Prevention Foundation, said some 1.3 million children travelling to school by motorcycle daily. Only seven per cent of them wear motorcycle helmet. The foundation has joined hands with other networks in launching activities at Bangkok’s Children Museum. The activities include drawing pictures, performing a play to raise awareness among children, parents and teachers on the importance of wearing helmets while travelling to school. Handbooks with colourful cartoon characters about how to wear helmets properly are launched today and will be given to some 300 schools in Bangkok. The foundation has set the target to reduce the number of child fatalities by 2,000 within 2017. (TNA)
