Hong Kong Students, Academicians Welcome To Do Research In Malaysia - DPM

HONG KONG, March 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia welcomes students and researchers from Hong Kong to conduct their research in higher learning institutions in Malaysia, said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. He said Malaysia was willing to share research findings, collaboration in technical cooperation, consultancy, staff development, physical and facilities planning at the university-to-university level as well as exchange programmes involving students and lecturers. He said this when making a courtesy call on Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Secretary of Education Eddie Ng Hak-kim. Also present were Malaysian Consul-General in Hong Kong Tengku Sirajuzzaman Tengku Mohamed Ariffin and Education Ministry deputy secretary-general (Management) Wan Khazanah Ismail. The Deputy Prime Minister is on a two-day working visit to Hong Kong after attending the United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai and Tokyo. Muhyiddin and Ng Hak-kim also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on education co-operation in strengthening and reinforcing education linkages between the two countries. The MoU marks an important milestone and moves towards building a stronger relationship between Hong Kong and Malaysia in the field of education. The MoU provides a framework to facilitate strategic collaborations between the educational communities of the two countries. It will foster greater networking in various areas in education especially between schools, teachers training institutes and higher education institutions, inclusive of polytechnics and community colleges as well as other areas of common interest. Before departing for Kuala Lumpur, the Deputy Prime Minister also paid a courtesy call on Hong Kong Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam.
