HRH Princess Maha Chakri Siridhorn's successful royal mission on developing quality of life of Thais

BANGKOK, January 4 (TNA) - By accompanying His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit to visit remote and rural areas across Thailand since she was young, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Siridhorn has witnessed the lives of those who were unfortunate and impoverished. In those places, she has seen children suffering from hunger and struck by diseases because of insufficient food and malnutrition. With such extrusive problems bared in her mind, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Siridhorn has been determined to improve the lives of the poor, considered as an integral part of the Thai society and an important force to sustain national prosperity and development in the long run. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Siridhorn initiated the first of her several royal projects in 1980, when she implemented the Agriculture for School Lunch Project at three border patrol police schools, aimed to help solve the problem of malnutrition among local children, trusting that good health will lead to their better learning and development both physically and mentally. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s works have been mainly done through youth-oriented education. Once the first project was successful, proven by good health and elevated learning potential among local children, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn then expanded and further developed her royal project to cover all targeted groups of the needy in an integral domain, from fetus, school children, youths to adults. Her numerous royal projects have, thus, sprung out, including those on promoting good nutrition and health for pregnant women and her babies, containing Iodine Deficiency, upgrading education quality, providing vocational training, developing local cooperatives, conserving natural resources and the environment and upholding local cultures and traditions. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn started up these projects at local schools and then expanded to all communities in targeted areas. Presently, there are 745 schools nationwide under her royal projects, all of which have been followed up progress closely and regularly by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn herself. Apart from developing schools and curricula to meet recognized standards and recruiting competent teachers to upgrade national education, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Siridhorn has also launched an initiative project on granting her royal patronage to needy students in rural areas in order to provide them with higher education opportunities till the best of their abilities and talents, covering scholarships, needed allowances, educational counselling or guidances and planning and technial training programs, along with inspiring self-consciousness among the youths for loving their hometowns in which they will bring back knowledge and expertise they have obtained to develop their native communities. The over three-decade royally-initiated projects of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Siridhorn have helped improve health, nutrition and education of rural children and youths, some of whom have even further their studies and graduated abroad and brought back their knowledge to develop their hometowns to become prosperous with more job creations and attainment of self-sustainability in accordance with His Majesty the King’s royally-initiated Sufficiency Economy Principle. Besides, neighbouring countries, namely Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and other Asian countries, have sought to adopt the royal development projects of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn as their modeled projects for raising quality of life of their citizens of all ages with their improved health and living conditions.(TNA)
