Huge Swathes of Acidified Land Improved

Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) -- Powerful efforts are made to increase per hectare grain yield by boosting the production on low-yielding fields across the DPRK. Thanks to the devoted efforts of agricultural officials and workers, huge swathes of acidified land and cold and wet land have been improved at a national level and this work is steadily pushed ahead with. The Agricultural Commission and all the provincial, city and county organs for agricultural guidance concretely surveyed the overall low-yielding fields and scientifically analyzed them and, on this basis, conducted scrupulous operation and command to increase the production on low-yielding fields. The agricultural workers in South Hwanghae Province, a major granary of the country, have turned out as one to implement the Party's policy on agriculture. They arranged proper waterways and built efficient under-drains while making preparations for burying lots of compost in infertile sloping fields. Other provinces are pushing ahead with improving the quality of low-yielding soil. Their agricultural workers produced substitute mineral fertilizer by themselves and took measures to enhance the activity of roots of crops in soil short of water and nutrition while focusing on carrying manure to fields by waging brisk campaigns in which one overtakes and learns from others and swaps experiences with them. -0-
