Human Trafficking: Assets Worth US$3.23 Million Seized From Thai Network

SONGKHLA (Thailand), June 12 (Bernama) -- Thailand's Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) seized assets worth US$3.23 million (109 million baht) from a human trafficking network. On Thursday, the AMLO seized and began checking 10 years of backdated income of Lt Gen Manas Kongpan, 58, a special adviser to the Thai Army, and one of the key suspects linked to human trafficking. AMLO secretary-general, Pol Col Sihanat Prayoonrat said the police would investigate Manas' financial details over a 10-year period, which was reportedly worth over US$890,931 (30 million baht). AMLO has seized a total of 258 assets such as properties, boats, cars, resort and hotel from the human trafficking network. At the Natawi Prison here, the police brought 15 Rohingyas, 18 Bangladeshis and a Thai national to identify the 17 suspects in connection with human trafficking. According to the police, they were able to identify the suspects. The police have issued 89 arrest warrants. Based on the warrants, 55 people were detained while the rest are still at large.
