Human trafficking suspect to be handed to immigration authorities

BANGKOK, July 23 (TNA) -- The Thai tourist police are set to hand over a human trafficking suspect on the wanted list of the International Criminal Police Organization or INTERPOL to the Immigration authorities. Deputy Commander of the Tourist Police Divison Pol Col Archayon Kraithong told press conference on the arrest of Ms Akhmedova Nigora, a wanted suspect by the INTERPOL for human trafficking charges in Uzbekistan. The Thai authorities carried out the arrest yesterday, after intense investigation at a condominium in On-nut area of Suan Luang district in Thailand's capital, Bangkok. During an interrogation by the police, the suspect had admitted that she was the wanted person on the list and tourist police would hand the suspect over to the Immigration Bureau for further actions. The deputy commander said the suspect has been traveling to and from Thailand for the past two years using an Uzbek passport. The suspect is said to have been working with a human trafficking syndicate in Uzbekistan in luring women to come and work in the Southeast Asia region. Pol Col Archayon said, presently, many criminals would disguise themselves as tourists to carry out illegal acts in Thailand, prompting his division to integrate its operations with other concerned agencies to eradicate and prevent unfortunate incidents in response to the government and the Royal Thai Police's policy. He said the move is also aimed to maintain confidence among foreigners on the Thai tourism industry, to ensure those who wanted travel or work in Thailand of the country's high level of safety.
