IATA DG to Attend High-level Meet in Montreal

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 (Bernama) -- International Air Transport Association's (IATA) director-general/chief executive officer, Tony Tyler, will attend a special high-level meeting on July 29 to discuss issues surrounding the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17. The meeting, hosted by International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), will take place at ICAO's Montreal headquarters with both the secretary general, Raymond Benjamin, and president of the council, Dr Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu in attendance, according to a media advisory from IATA and ICAO website. Director general of Airports Council International, Angela Gittens, and director general Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation, Jeff Poole, will also be present at the meeting. The advisory said the meeting will discuss the appropriate actions to be pursued in order to more effectively mitigate potential risks to civil aviation arising from conflict zones. Boeing 777-200 MH17 aircraft with 298 people on board comprising 283 passengers and 15 crew was on its way to Kuala Lumpur after departing from Amsterdam when it crashed in Donetsk, Ukraine close to the Russian border on July 17. --BERNAMA
