ICHHTO, UNESCO call for closer cooperation

Tehran, April 29, IRNA – Head of Iranˈs Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) Masoud Soltanifar and visiting Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Irina Bokova in a meeting on Tuesday called for closer cooperation. Soltanifar and Bokova agreed to boost cooperation in all fields including the preservation of Iran’s intangible cultural heritage and regional cultural heritage. Bokova arrived in Iran on Friday for a five-day visit which is taking place upon an invitation of Minister of Science, Research and Technology Reza Faraji Dana. Earlier, Bokova visited Isfahan and Shiraz and the Bam citadel in the context of UNESCO plan to rebuild the Bam citadel ruined by deadly quake on December 26, 2003. This is the first visit to Iran by a UNESCO director-general in ten years. end
