Idea Exchanges Among Best Ways To Promote Acceptance Among Groups - Envoy

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) -– Malaysia believes its continuous efforts to promote a culture of peace, dialogue and ideas exchange are some of the best ways to instill understanding and acceptance among different groups, faiths and religions. Its Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Hussein Haniff said the community needed to share ideas and knowledge, as well as discover common grounds that could bring the different groups closer. "It is our strong belief that the promotion of the culture of peace should be an inclusive process. "Therefore, positive interaction among peoples of diverse cultures and values will help to achieve the aim of preserving and promoting global peace and stability, which are necessary prerequisites for the promotion of sustainable economic and social development," he said. Hussein said this in his address on Agenda Item 14: The Culture of Peace at the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday. The text of his speech was made available to Bernama here Tuesday. He added that Malaysia strongly believed that aspects related to the moderation and promotion of the culture of peace would eventually curb extremism and radicalism. "We are hopeful that our noble efforts will eventually counter and drown the voices of the extremists and radicals. "For this to happen, we encourage all Member States to work hand-in-hand towards instituting a culture of peace and moderation among the peoples at the domestic and international level," said Hussein. -- BERNAMA
