IGP Checks Security Aspects Of 'Equanimity'

PORT KLANG (Selangor, Malaysia) Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohamad Fuzi Harun has confirmed that his visit to the ‘Equanimity’ which was allegedly purchased with funds stolen from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) was to inspect the security aspects of the superyacht. He said police had made the best arrangements so far concerning the security aspects of the superyacht which sailed from Indonesia and arrived at Port Klang at 12.35 pm Tuesday. "We came here to discuss the security issues and arrangements between the authority here (Boustead Cruise Centre) and police and other relevant agencies. "Just wanted to view the condition of the ship together with my senior officers from the federal police headquarters and the Selangor police Contingent," he told reporters after visiting the ship for almost 30 minutes, which is currently berthed at the Boustead Cruise Centre terminal here, Tuesday. The yacht, estimated to be worth RM1 billion, is believed to be part of the assets purchased using funds from 1MDB. Its purported owner, businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low, is also being sought to assist in the investigation into 1MDB. According to the Attorney-General’s Chambers, the yacht was properly seized under the laws of Malaysia. --BERNAMA
