Ihsan Announces Results of Its 5th Scientific Research Competition

Doha, May 15 (QNA) - Qatar Foundation for Elderly People Care (Ihsan) announced the results of the 5th edition of the scientific research competition, which involved students from 21 secondary schools across the country.      Ihsan awarded the first seven schools in the main competition, and honored five other schools for excellence in research ideas. The first place was "Rawda Bint Jassim Secondary School for Girls" and the second was "Qatar Banking Studies and Business Administration School for Boys," The third was Ahmed Bin Mohammed Secondary School." The students presented their research on the issues and needs of older persons to the judging panel of specialists and experts from Qatar University, the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, schools and Ihsan Center, where the research was subjected to a theoretical process that was evaluated and judged according to specific criteria and a practical aspect during which the researchers discussed the students' goals. After the evaluation, five research papers were nominated for the Creative Ideas Award in addition to the seven schools that won the main competition. The competition aims to prepare a generation aware of the issues of older people, and to enhance research competition on the values and respect of parents, to achieve intergenerational cohesion, and spreading the message of the institution and its vision through the procedural research according to the steps of the scientific approach to research, and the enhancement of the spirit of the team work through participation in group research. On this occasion, Executive Director of Ihsan Center, Mubarak Abdulaziz Al Khalifa said that the researches received in this edition has varied to include a number of promising projects that will result in instruments, studies and researches that serve the elderly and facilitate their daily lives. Adding that the keenness of students and schools to participate in this competition reflects the true meaning of respecting parents and charity to the elderly and emphasizes effective communication between generations. The Ihsan Center launched a scientific competition for school students in its first season in 2012/2013, which is a research competition organized by the center, in order to develop students' understanding of the nature of dealing with the elderly and to highlight their social adaptation and meet their needs. Participating in the competition is through the provision of procedural research dealing with a particular phenomenon or social issue related to the field of the elderly and their needs, problems and promote a positive outlook for them, and how to benefit from their experiences.
