ILLEGAL GOLD MINERS UNDER INVESTIGATION

Uvurkhangai /MONTSAME/ Police department of Uvurkhangai aimag is conducting patrol inspections in Nariinteel, Baruunbayan-Ulaan, Khairhandulaan, Uyanga, Bat-Ulzii and Taragt soums to detect and interdict illegal gold mining. The police detected illegal gold miners in the second bag (smallest administrative unit) of Nariinteel soum and Khyaryn Bumbat of Baruunbayan-Ulaan soum. Equipment and tools used for the illegal gold mining were temporarily confiscated and the suspects are under investigation. According to the Article No. 24.2.1 of the Criminal Code of Mongolia, exploration or extraction of minerals by a legal body without a license shall be punishable by confiscation of property or even incarceration for a term of 1 to 5 years.
