Illegal immigrants sent back to Bangladesh

BANGKOK, October 14 (TNA) - The first group of Bangladeshi nationals--who had illegally entered Thailand since early this year--was sent back to their home country on Monday. The 13 Bangladeshi illegal immigrants, out of a total of 28, were seen off at Thailand’s main Suvarnabhumi International Airport by authorities concerned, including Chief of Immigration Bureau Police Lieutenant General Panu Kerdlappol, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the National Security Council (NSC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The illegal Bangladeshi immigrants had been detained in Thailand, based on international human rights standards, together with Muslim Rohingya refugees from Myanmar since the beginning of this year. The 28 people were later proved to be Bangladeshi citizens and the remaining 15 of them are waiting to be deported to their home country. For the Rohingya asylum seekers, they need to pass an identity check process before being sent back to their home country, or to any agreed third country. (TNA)
