Illicit storage of industrial waste seized in Thai East

BANGKOK, October 16 (TNA) - Authorities of Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) have seized industrial waste worth about one billion baht at a local warehouse, but the origin of the imported waste has not yet been identified. DSI Deputy Director-General Police Colonel Yanapol Yangyuen, together with officials from the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission and the Office of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, checked the 32,000-square-meter warehouse at the Baan Noen Mok Intersection in Baan Bueng district of Thailand's eastern Chon Buri province and found the large amount of industrial waste, which can be smelt and give pure zinc worth over one billion baht. The authorities consider the storage as violating the Thai laws governing hazardous substances and factories and have seized the industrial waste for further examination, acknowledging that they have now only known that the industrial waste, if not seized, would be transported to China through the Laem Chabang deep seaport in Chon Buri.
