iM4U Plans To Organise More ASEAN Volunteerism Programmes

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 4 (Bernama) -– Malaysia's youth volunteer community, iM4U, plans to organise more ASEAN volunteerism programmes in future following the success of its inaugural ASEAN4U initiative. "We hope to continue organising similar programmes in the near future in engaging volunteers in Malaysia and from neighbouring countries," said iM4U chief operating officer, Rudy Malik. The ASEAN4U, an iM4U volunteer network initiative to celebrate Malaysia's chairmanship of ASEAN for 2015, had gathered 70 participants from ASEAN member countries in Kuala Lumpur. The participants took part in various activities such as cooking and distributing food to 500 homeless people in 10 locations in Kuala Lumpur and planting trees to help restore nature during their six-day stint, which ended Tuesday. "I hope the participants have benefited from the programme and will be able to apply the experience and knowledge gained here in their home countries," said Rudy. He was met while accompanying the delegates to a meeting with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Wahid Omar, here, Tuesday. Abdul Wahid, who is also the iM4U mentor, said the ASEAN4U programme was a great platform for youths to develop their volunteerism skills and further integrate in the community at large. He said the programme had also created an opportunity for the volunteers from different backgrounds to share their experience and impart knowledge to their peers. -- BERNAMA
