Immigration Dept Launches Express Lanes At KLIA, klia2

SEPANG (Selangor, Malaysia), Dec 18 (Bernama) -- The Immigration Department Thursday launched two express lanes at KL International Airport (KLIA) and KL International Airport 2 (klia2) to facilitate the arrival and departure of travellers from the Asean countries as well as those from other countries with long-term visa. Immigration director-general Mustafa Ibrahim launched the Asean Lane as well the Foreigner eGate at KLIA here. The Asean Lane goes into operation immediately while the Foreigner eGate at KLIA goes into operation on Dec 29 and that at klia2, in February next year, he told reporters after the launch. The Asean Lane would expedite the immigration procedure for people from Asean attending meetings, seminars and conferences in Malaysia, he said. Five counters for the Asean Lane had been set up at KLIA, two at the international departure hall and three at the international arrival hall while four had been opened at klia2, two each at the international departure hall and international arrival hall, he said. Mustafa said about 20 per cent of the travellers to Malaysia were holders of passports from the Asean countries. He also said that the Asean Lane facility would also be provided at the Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi and Penang international airports by February next year. Mustafa said the Foreigner eGate would be a fast-track facility for foreigners with long-term visa that would also record their biometric details. -- BERNAMA
