Impact of Social Media To be Discussed At Asia Media Summit 2015 From Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- The three-day Asia Media Summit (AMS) 2015 from Tuesday will be a platform for over 500 local and foreign media practitioners to discuss the influence and challenges posed by social media, among the issues. The last time the summit was hosted by Malaysia was in 2008. The summit this time is seen as an effort to gather information and ideas for transformation of the broadcasting sector in this social media era, according to director-general of the Tun Abdul Razak Institute of Broadcasting and Information (IPPTAR), Adilah Shek Omar. "We need to discuss on how to tackle the challenges posed by social media. We cannot remain at the same level with regards to content. We need to transform. "Our people have to change, the way we work also have to change," she told Bernama in relation to AMS2015, to be held at a hotel, here. She said Malaysia could also learn and apply the best practice in the broadcasting sector from foreign countries in order to improve on its existing practices and facilities. This will be the sixth time that Malaysia will be hosting the prestigious international gathering of media practitioners. Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek is scheduled to deliver his keynote address at AMS2015 on Tuesday. The summit will have four plenary sessions, namely on 'Social Media's Landscape, Trends and its Future','Effective Strategies to Build Markets, Content and Business', 'Defining and Implementing Legal and Regulatory Guidelines' and 'Making Sense of Big Data and Social Data'. There will also be the CEO Roundtable on the topic, 'Should Broadcasting Compete or Collaborate?' with participants that include RTM director-general Abu Bakar Ab Rahim, and representatives from the Qatar-based Al Jazeera Media Network and Australian Broadcasting Corporation International. The AMS is an annual affair since 2004 organised by the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), with the cooperation of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Ministry and IPPTAR. Malaysia was the host for the inaugural summit that year. The AMS2014 was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. -- BERNAMA
