Impeachment rulings on ex-female Thai PM, ex-top parliamentarians set on Jan 23

BANGKOK, January 15 (TNA) - National Legislative Assembly (NLA) President Pornphet Wichitcholchai has set the closing statements for impeachment cases against Thailand's former Senate speaker Nikhom Wairatpanij and former House speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont on January 21 and against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra on January 22, while setting the impeachment rulings on the three cases on January 23. Nikhom and Somsak were accused of legal violation in past attempts to amend Thailand's 2007 Constitution on its part concerning the make-up of the Senate, while Yingluck was charged with failing to stop her previous government's loss-ridden rice-pledging scheme, all the three cases were filed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). Pornphet warned NLA members not to make any comment relating to the rulings on the cases before the January 23 voting day; otherwise, they could be considered as influencing the cases and violating NLA meeting regulations and laws. Pornphet also urged NLA members to attend the meeting on January 23, as the cases are in public attention. (TNA)
