Improving haze situation in Thai South

BANGKOK, June 28 (TNA) - Impacts from ongoing smog, caused by forest fires on Indonesia's Sumatra Island, have been gradually improving in the Lower Thai South. Pollution Control Department Director-General Wichien Jungrungruang told reporters of the positive development on Friday, pointing out that dust particles smaller than 10 microns (PM10) were latest recorded at 34-80 micrograms per cubic metre on average in 24 hours on June 26 in the Lower Thai South, which were within safety standard levels. According to the senior Natural Resources and Environment Ministry official, provinces in the Lower Thai South affected by the Indonesian haze include Narathiwat, Yala and Surat Thani provinces, where the PM10 was latest recorded at 80, 70 and 54 micrograms per cubic metre respectively, remaining below the safety standard level of 120 microgram per cubic metre. The senior official said that good air quality was detected in Phuket and Songkhla provinces, with 34 and 40 microgram of PM10 latested recorded per cubic metre respectively. (TNA)
