India Conveys Appreciation To Najib For Asean-India Summit Success

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- India has conveyed its appreciation to Prime Minister Najib Razak for the success of the Asean-India Summit, held recently in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. In a letter to Najib on Nov 20, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi also thanked Malaysia for its continuous support in strengthening the growing ties between India and Asean, India's High Commission here said in a statement. "Both Prime Ministers had met on the sidelines of the Asean Summit and discussed issues of mutual bilateral interest, focusing on deepening of the strategic partnership between the two countries," the statement said. Modi in his letter also expressed confidence that India and the Southeast Asian region can raise their economic collaboration to a higher trajectory, besides working together for peace, stability and better future. He said that the support and goodwill expressed by Asean leaders gave him the confidence in pursuing the goal of transforming the Indian economy for the betterment of its people. India became a full dialogue partner of Asean in 1995. The first Asean-India Summit was held in 2002, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. -- BERNAMA
