Indian protester to file lawsuit against Thai government's deportation order

BANGKOK, February 5 (TNA) - An Indian businessman, Sathit Segal, who is a leader of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), says he is consulting his lawyer to file a lawsuit against the caretaker government-run Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO)’s order to deport him. Segal told reporters on Wednesday that he did nothing wrong because he had neither joined the PDRC marching campaign, nor addressed the crowd on the stage after the 60-day imposition of the emergency degree in all areas in Bangkok and some areas in its peripheral provinces since January 22, 2014. However, the Indian business operator conceded that he has not yet converted to a Thai national, despite living in the Kingdom for 50 years. Earlier, the CMPO announced that it would instruct the Immigration Bureau to deport the Indian businessman for violating the emergency decree. PDRC spokesman Akanat Promphan claimed that the CMPO order to deport the Indian business operator is inappropriate and it may affect other foreigners who want to do business in Thailand. After the PDRC announced that they would leave a protest site on Rama VIII Bridge in Bangkok, the anti-government group told journalists, meanwhile, that they need one more day, until February 6, to clear up the area, before opening the bridge for traffic on February 7.(TNA)
