Indonesia Introduced To New Zealand Students

Jakarta, Nov 17 (Antara) - The Indonesian Embassy in Wellington has recently held an Indonesian Day to introduce the country`s richness of cultures and arts to New Zealand students, a diplomat said in a statement made available to Antara here Monday. The event, co-organized by the embassy, New Zealand Indonesia Association and Indonesian Students Association in Wellington, took place at Te Aro elementary school, the embassy`s spokesman, Wanton Saragih, said. The school students and teachers were introduced about the Angklung (traditional bamboo musical instrument) and Indonesian language. Divided into three groups, 240 students participated in the Angklung and Indonesian language workshops. The Angklung has been recognized by the UNESCO as the "Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" on November 18, 2010. "Introducing the Indonesian culture and language at schools in New Zealand is an effective way of promoting Indonesia," he said.
