Indonesia Keen on Emulating K1M Concept To Improve KIM

KOTA KINABALU (Sabah), March 28 (Bernama) -- The delegation of Indonesian International Information Services (IIIS) has shown keen interest to emulate the concept of 1Malaysia Community (K1M) in a bid to improve the Kelompok Informasi Masyarakat (KIM) (community information group) in the republic. IIIS director, Drs Selamatta Sembiring, who is also the head of the delegation, said the similar demographic and background characteristics of Malaysian, Indonesian and Brunei communities had changed over time. "Hence, the organising of KIM in certain places in one country differ from the other, this is what we need to learn," he told reporters during the delegation's visit to the Communication and Multimedia Ministry Integrated Complex in Kepayan, here Friday. Among the departments visited by the delegation were the Sabah Broadcasting Department, Information Department and the Malaysian National News Agency Bureau. Selamatta said KIM would also make K1M as its very own benchmark to be adopted according to the situation in Indonesia. He said through the visit, it was also hoped that the existing ties between the two countries would be strengthened and further improved. Meanwhile, Brunei Prime Minister's Department Information officer Muhd Khairulhadi Muhd Muhtaddir, as the head of delegation from the country, said the visit had indeed inspired the Village and Mukim Consultative Councils and their potentials that could be developed through KIM, especially in the aspect of economy. He said the visit would also enliven the ties between the three countries, including in areas of culture, food and language. Thirteen members of the delegations from Indonesia and Brunei were in Sabah for a visit starting Thursday. -- BERNAMA
