Indonesia Must Be From Illegal Alcoholic Drinks Before Ramadhan

JAKARTA, April 12 (Antara) - Deputy national police chief, Commisioner General Syafruddin has said the police have set a target of making Indonesia free of circulation of illegal alcoholic drinks made by mixing them with dangerous substances by end of April 2018 or before the upcoming Ramadhan fasting month. "(Circulation of dangerously mixed alcoholic drinks or 'oplosan' in a local term) across iIndonesia must be zero. The target must be met this month," Syafruddin said in South Jakarta on Wednesday, commenting on planned raids against alcoholic drinks made by mixing them with dangerous substanced or locally called "miras oplosan". According to him, the "miras oplosan" case is a classic matter which then re-emerged in a new trend. "This is an old crime but done with a new method. This crime has long been existing in the community," the deputy national police chief explained. At least 82 people have died after drinking the dangerously mixed alcoholic drinks in several areas in Jakarta and West Java provinces. As many as 51 out of the 82 dead people were found in West Java namely in the Districts of Bandung and Suikabumi, while the rest (31 people) died in Jakarta. A similar case has also happened in South Kalimantan. Syafruddin further said that the police will cooperate with the related ministries to eradicate the circulation of the kind of drinks. Previously, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police named six people regarding the "miras oplosan" case that killed around 30 people. Chief of the Public Relations Services of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono made the remarks on Thursday. Argo further said that two suspects living in Bekasi were identified by their initials as D and UG, one in South Jakarta with initial RS, three in East Jakarta with initials BOT, DW and ZL. In addition, another two suspects who are in the wanted list, living in Bekasi and East Jakarta with their initials as M and UR respectively, Argo said.
