Indonesia To Respond Emotionally To Israeli Oppression Over Palestinians

TEHRAN, Iran, Feb 23 (Antara) - Indonesia will respond emotionally to Israeli oppression over the Palestinian people, the Chairman of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) of Indonesia, Mohammad Saleh, said here on Wednesday. "You are not alone. About 90 percent of more than 200 million Indonesian people are Muslims and support anti-colonialism," Mohammad Saleh said during a speech before participants of the 6th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada in Tehran on February 21 and 22, 2017. Indonesia has seven presidents who have never changed their stance in support of the Palestinians' struggle for independence and to establish a Palestinian state, the Chairman of the Council said, adding that Indonesia is expecting full membership for Palestine in the United Nations (UN). Since the beginning of the independence of Indonesia, the country, with the largest Muslim population in the world, rejects the establishment of Israel in 1948, Saleh asserted. "Indonesia is against colonialism in any form and since 1945 consistently supports anti-colonialism, as it is not in accordance with the Constitution of 1945," he said. President Sukarno in 1955 invited the world leaders, including the Palestinian leader, to the Asian-African Conference, which resulted in the formation of the Non-Aligned Movement, Saleh noted. "The movement was set up to raise the anti-colonialism spirit. Ironically, Palestine is the only country under colonialism," he added. According to the Chairman of the Council, Indonesia has a moral debt to the Palestinian people for supporting the independence of Indonesia. Indonesia invites all participants to the conference, which is attended by around 700 participants from 80 countries, to help the Palestinian people with more tangible measures for the achievement of peace and independence.
