Indonesia satisfied with progress in Thai police probe of murder case

SONGKHLA, THAILAND, March 26 (TNA) - Indonesia has closely monitored Thailand’s investigation into the murder of its two naval officers allegedly on a Thai fishing boat on March 9 and expressed satisfaction with its progress. A representative of the Indonesian Consul in Thailand's southern Songkhla Province met senior Thai police officers on Wednesday morning to inquire about progress in the investigation and expressed his satisfaction. Assistant National Police Chief Police Lieutenant General Jakthip Chaijinda, who was among the senior Thai police officers meeting with the Indonesian Consul’s representative at the headquarters of the Provincial Police Region 9 in Songkhla for about two hours, told reporters that the investigation has made much progress, while Thai police are waiting for relevant documents and forensic evidence, including the DNA of the dead victims from Indonesia. According to the assistant national police chief, arrest warrants have been issued against 12 suspected Thai fishing crew members for illegal immigration, while a murder charge against any of them must be waited for the discovery of a victim’s body although present findings imply the murder happened. Police Major General Chavalit Sawaengphuet, Deputy Commissioner of the Provincial Police Region 9, who heads the investigative team, said, meanwhile, that the fishing boat where the murder happened was illegally identified as Sor Nattaya 7 fishing boat and many other boats were also falsely identified as Sor Nattaya 7. Besides, their crews had not passed an immigration check before and after their trips to fish in the waters of neighboring countries. (TNA)
