Indonesian, Dutch Universities Establish Cooperation On Leadership

YOGYAKARTA, Nov 2 (Antara) - An Indonesian university of Gadjah Mada (UGM) in collaboration with a Dutch University of Groningen establish cooperation in order to prepare global leaders who can contribute to the advancement of the world. "Universities must deliver leaders which can works at a global scale in order to build the world," University of Groningen President Poppema said here on Tuesday. Poppema said University of Groningen wants to become a global-class university, therefore it expected UGM could be a door to the future cooperation with other universities in the ASEAN region. "University of Groningen will also be a door for UGM to enter European universities," Poppema added. Both universities have signed a Memoradum of Understanding (MoU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on cooperation between UGM's ASEAN Studies Center and Groningen Research Center for Southeast Asia and ASEAN. Poppema asserted a university is instrumental in shaping the student maturity. "The university is not only in charge in delivering leaders to their own country, but also for global scope," Poppema noted. Meanwhile, UGM Rector Dwikorita Karnawati said the cooperation is expected to enhance the capabilities of UGM to pursue science and technology developments. "A lot of things need to be learned by UGM from University of Groningen to improve academic quality, especially in the field of energy development," Dwikorita added.
