Indonesian Embassy Holds Meeting To Bring Together Afghan Ulemas

KABUL, May 17 (Antara) - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Kabul, Afghanistan, is holding a meeting that brings together Islamic scholars (Ulemas) across Afghanistan on May 15-16, 2017, to forge brotherhood, unity, and awareness to create peace. "Indonesian Ulemas are often invited to share their experiences on how Islam is practiced in Indonesia," Indonesian Ambassador to Afghanistan Arief Rachman noted here on Tuesday. At the meeting, the embassy has invited two Ulemas from Indonesia to share their insights. The embassy has invited 150 Afghan Ulemas comprising 100 men and 50 women from all provinces in Afghanistan. According to Ambassador Rachman, Afghan scholars are keen to learn how Islam is practiced in Indonesia where people can live in peace and coexist with believers of other faiths and hundreds of tribes. "The Indonesian Ulemas only share their experiences. If possible, the Afghan people can adopt the way in which Islam is practiced in Indonesia," he said. The meeting is routinely held every year. Indonesia also invites Afghan Ulemas to study how Islam is practiced in Indonesia. The ambassador said Indonesia, as part of the global community, should take part in realizing peace in Afghanistan. "We are here to always tell the people that we are brothers with the people of Afghanistan as well as with those of other countries," the ambassador added.
